07/12/2006 - Milpitas, California, (July 11, 2006) (OTC: SIPX.PK), - Sipex Corporation today announced its newest Flash LED driver IC, the SP7685. With 1.2A output current, the SP7685 is an ideal solution for driving the next generation of high intensity white LEDs. The device features programmable Flash current and Torch mode where constant light is needed.
Typical application circuit Operating at an industry leading 2.4MHz switching frequency, the SP7685 requires only five small external components thus reducing the overall solution footprint to new levels. Another significant feature of the SP7685 is the two second timeout function at Flash mode. This built-in protection feature enables reliable high-power LED operation over a long life cycle. SP7685 is designed to fulfill high-power LED needs for a variety of applications, including 2+ megapixel camera phone, Xenon-LED dual lighting video camcorder, and 5W LED flashlights.
Functional diagram The SP7685 provides designers with many other features critical to handheld battery operated systems: - Automatic soft start: limits inrush current
- High efficiency: up to 94% in Torch Mode
- Minimum external components
- Wide VIN range: 2.7V to 5.5V
- Low 50mV reference for low loss sensing
- Over-voltage protection on output
- Over-current/temperature protection
- Low ripple and EMI — no inductors
- Space Saving 10-pin 3mm x 3mm DFN Package
"Sipex is committed to providing product solutions and features that support the latest LED technology while addressing system requirements," said Chris Lee, Technical Marketing Manager. "The SP7685 is pin-to-pin compatible with Sipex's successful SP6685 700mA LED flash driver. The SP7685 integrates flash mode timeout, thermal runaway, over-current, and over-voltage features to ensure the high power driving condition is safely protected."
