OSRAM’s bright presence at Electronica 2006 to a Close

Nov 16, 2006 - OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is lighting its 160 m² stand at this year’s Electronica fair entirely with high-power LEDs. The semiconductor lighting company is using this lighting concept to demonstrate the enormous advances in the brightness of light emitting diodes and their suitability for general lighting applications.

OSRAM’s bright presence at Electronica 2006
High-power LEDs such as OSTAR Lighting are making a breakthrough into general illumination, as the lighting concept for the OSRAM stand demonstrates most effectively.

The stand has four distinct areas – Business, Living, Lounge and Wellness. The Business area is lit by daylight white LED light sources to help visitors concentrate and pay attention, whereas the other areas have warm white LEDs to create a pleasant relaxing atmosphere. The 120 LED spotlights, each equipped with six OSTAR Lighting LEDs, are capable of delivering up to 1760 lumen each, depending on the white tone. This exceptional brightness is primarily thanks to new technologies such as ThinGaN and Chip Level Coating, without which modern high-power products such as OSTAR Lighting would not be possible.

In the Wellness area white high-power Golden Dragon LEDs are used in conjunction with a wide-angle ARGUS lens to backlight the floor coverings of matt glass and white artificial grass. The principle is known from scalable displays. A small viewing window is provided so visitors can see the backlighting system. Impressive lighting effects on the steps and acrylic banisters round off the overall lighting concept. When people approach the steps a light barrier comprising IR sensors activates an exciting lighting scene.

With their high output, LEDs are being used for more and more applications in general room lighting. Advantages such as long life and small dimensions – combined with greater freedom of design – will ensure a permanent place for semiconductor light sources in this sector.
