LED Engin’s LuxiTune™ Module Powers Havells-Sylvania’s Award-winning Beacon Tunable White LED Spotlight

San Jose, CA, USA –December 1, 2015: LED Engin, Inc. reveals that its LuxiTune compact white LED engine, which enables precise and easy control of color tuning and dimming, is at the heart of tunable versions of Havells-Sylvania’s award-winning Beacon spotlight. Beacon Tune is designed for museum and gallery applications where lighting has a vital role to play in presenting exhibits in the most attractive way. It’s also suited to high-end retail environments. In all of these applications, LuxiTune empowers users’ creativity by delivering precision control of consistently high quality white light across a wide color temperature and dimming range.

Enabled by LuxiTune, Beacon Tune spotlights feature tuneable white light from a bright 4300K down to a warm 2100K, while maintaining high color rendering index (CRI) with Ra90. They offer exceptionally smooth, flicker-free dimming from 100 to 0.5%. Lamps are available as 26° Spotlights or 42° Floodlights, each producing a nominal 1000lm luminous flux. They are highly efficient (Energy Class A++, A+, A), which minimizes both energy consumption and the amount of heat generated. Beacon Tune’s heatsink has been specifically designed to look both aesthetically pleasing but also to effectively manage heat through passive cooling; ensuring 50,000 hours operating life, which reduces maintenance costs.

The LuxiTune platform delivers smooth dynamic lighting by combining correlated color temperature (CCT) and brightness control that precisely tracks the black body curve. Dimming characteristics are virtually indistinguishable from those of incandescent lamps. LED binning to within two MacAdam ellipses ensures part-to-part color consistency. Furthermore, color point stability over time far exceeds Energy Star requirements.

LuxiTune is very easy to integrate into the design of compact fixtures. It is less than 50mm in diameter and includes control interfaces for industry-standard 0-10 volt dimmers, DMX and DALI. Zigbee HA and DMX RDM control options will be available at the end of this year. Neil Solanki, Havells-Sylvania’s Strategic Business Manager for Concord, said, “The lighting of museums and gallery spaces needs to highlight and accentuate the texture, color and shape of exhibits, whether they are historic artefacts, modern art, 2D paintings or 3D sculptures. The play of light and dark can be used to great effect, creating dramatic tension in a darkened exhibition space, drawing visitors to the pieces on display. The LuxiTune LED engine produces a quality and consistency of light across the entire color temperature and dimming range that enables us to create these effects with great precision. Havells-Sylvania is a respected premium brand and we need the best technology in our products to support that position. LED Engin truly delivers in this respect.”

Last month, LuxiTune was crowned ‘Light Source of the Year’ at Lux Awards 2015, Europe's flagship lighting industry awards competition. Earlier this year, LuxiTune was named “Best Modular SSL Light Engine” in the Sapphire Awards run by LEDs Magazine in North America.
