Panasonic Electric Works Vossloh-Schwabe Establishes New Company in Republic of Serbia to Manufacture Energy-efficient Electronic Devices for Lighting Equipment
Panasonic Electric Works Vossloh-Schwabe GmbH (head office: Lüdenscheid, Germany, CEO: Klaus Breisch) established a new company in Svilajnac, the Republic of Serbia, to manufacture energy-efficient electronic devices for lighting equipment. The new company is named Panasonic Electric Works Vossloh-Schwabe Serbia d.o.o. The investment amount in the financial year 2010 is approx. EUR 580,000. Mass production will commence in January 2011, to enhance lighting device business in Europe, where energy efficiency improvement efforts are well under way. Read more »

Tridonic Fürstenfeld Launches into the LED Era
The Tridonic production plant in Fürstenfeld, which manufactures magnetic lighting components and is part of the Zumtobel Group, is launching into the LED era and today commissioned its first LED assembly line. The highly automated line represents an initial step towards the volume production of innovative LED chains. Plans envisage commissioning up to three more LED assembly lines by 2013. Annual production capacity is slated to reach 12 million LED modules. The new LED assembly lines represent a total investment of EUR 1.5 million. The plant offers space for expansion to as many as six assembly lines. Production of special LED light engines for use in chiller cabinets has already begun. Read more »

First Pilot Production Line for Organic LEDs to be Installed in Germany Osram and its LED-affiliate Osram Opto Semiconductors are driving the technology shift on the lighting market and currently building a pilot line for organic LEDs (OLEDs) in Regensburg, Germany. "We hold a leading position in the young and promising OLED market," said Martin Goetzeler, CEO at Osram. "We want to use the pilot production line to extend our lead and quickly forge ahead with development of the technology and prepare for mass production." In the next three years around 50 million euros will be invested in the new pilot production facility and in research on LED applications. Toyoda Gosei Concludes Joint Venture Agreement to Develop, Manufacture, and Market LEDs in Taiwan
Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. and two Taiwanese companies formally agreed on September 20 to establish a joint venture in Taiwan to develop, manufacture, and market light emitting diodes (LEDs). The Taiwanese companies are Epistar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of LED chips, and Twin Hill Co., Ltd., a sales agent for Toyoda Gosei LEDs. Epistar expects 35% in 3Q10 gross margin
Although Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar will adjust its shipment mix in the wake of a demand slowdown from the LED-backlit TV segment, the company's internal target for third-quarter 2010 gross margin remains at 35%, according to industry sources. Epistar pointed out that September revenues could be affected due to the adjustment but should at least reach the level of August and gain modestly from that of July. The company expects full utilization of blue LED capacity into September and about 75-85% for red LEDs. Epistar registered first-half revenues of NT$9.274 billion (US$290.767 million), gross margin of 37.75% and after-tax profit of 2.692 billion or NT$3.5 per share. The company pointed out that orders were in excess of capacity by 30-40% in the first half and expects demand and supply to be more balanced in in the fourth quarter. Read more »
