Pixelligent Technologies Joins the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center at RPI
Pixelligent Technologies, the global manufacturer of PixClear™ high index materials and nanocrystal dispersions for the solid state lighting and flat panel display industries, announced today that it has joined the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Infineon Technologies AG to Acquire International Rectifier Corporation
Infineon Technologies AG and International Rectifier Corporation today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Infineon will acquire International Rectifier for US-Dollar 40 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately US-Dollar 3 billion. The acquisition combines two semiconductor companies with leadership positions in power management technology. By the integration of International Rectifier, Infineon complements its offerings and will be able to provide customers with an even broader range of innovative products and services. Lextar and Cree, Inc. Announce LED Cooperation
Lextar Electronics Corp., a vertically-integrated LED company from Taiwan, and Cree, Inc., today announced that the companies have entered into an agreement whereby Cree will make an investment in Lextar and the companies will enter into a supply agreement for sapphire-based LED chips. As part of the agreement, Cree will invest approximately $83 million to purchase 83 million Lextar shares at a price of NT$30 per share. Lextar and Cree will also enter into a long-term LED chip supply agreement, as well as an agreement for certain Cree LED chip and component intellectual property. Upon closing of the investment, Cree will own approximately 13% of Lextar, becoming Lextar’s strategic customer in lighting market. Read more »

Private Equity Company Ratos Acquires LEDiL
Ratos has signed an agreement to acquire approximately 67% of the shares in the Finnish LED optics company Ledil Oy from the company's founders. The purchase price (enterprise value) for 100% of the company amounts to EUR 97m, of which Ratos will provide equity of approximately EUR 50m. Ledil is a leading global player in secondary optics (lenses which focus light from a source to achieve a desired lighting solution) for LED lighting. The company started in 2002 and is owned today by the two founders and Ledil's CEO. Ratos is acquiring approximately 67% of the company and the founders and other key people will own approximately 33%. Read more »

Epistar Acquires 94% of TSMC SSL from TSMC and Subsidiary
Epistar Corp. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC ) held Board of Directors’ meetings today and approved a sale of TSMC Solid State Lighting (TSMC SSL) shares. Epistar will acquire all shares of TSMC SSL held by TSMC and TSMC’s subsidiary TSMC Guang Neng Investment Ltd. for NT$825 million, or NT$1.46 per share. After the transaction, Epistar will own 94% of the company, and TSMC will completely exit TSMC SSL. The company will be operated by Epistar and TSMC SSL’s current team. Read more »
