Luger Research Organizes a One-Day Innovation Workshop with Prof. DDr. Sergei Ikovenko (M.I.T. USA) in Dornbirn, Austria

At the 17th of June 2016, Prof. DDr. Sergei Ikovenko, a global leader in systematic innovation, will explain the key strategies for innovations at the Hotel Martinspark. Successful companies like Samsung, Philips, General Electric and Intel have attended Prof. Ikovenko’s workshops before. Pragmatic Open Innovation:
Open innovation was defined as the use of purposive inflows and outflows of knowledge to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation, respectively (Chesbrough, 2003). Once open innovation is deployed in a company, the company’s boundaries become transparent that allows combining the company resources with the external co‐operators. Open Innovation is a” two‐way street” – it comers finding a solution for your engineering problem as well as finding a new market for a solution/technology that you have. 

This one‐day workshop will present a set of pragmatic tools for practically exercising the Open Innovation concept. Some of the tools are analytical, some are problem‐solving ones, for example, Function‐Oriented Search (FOS). Typically, Function‐Oriented Search produces a range of potential solutions, each with its own set of adaptation challenges. By stratifying solutions along two dimensions – potential efficacy of the technology and degree of difficulty to implement (time and resources) – we illuminate the choices available in a way that facilitates decision making. Inverse FOS in its tern, allows to identify new markets for an existing technology or a material. 

Successfully deploying these pragmatic Open Innovation tools enables the company to reach far outside its industry to identify enabling technologies that could be critical for unlocking breakthrough innovation and/or identifying new market segments for your product or technology.

About Sergei Ikovenko, Dr. ­ Eng, Ph.D., P.E.

Senior Principal
Dr. Ikovenko serves as the senior leader of GEN3's Facilitation and Training services and leads much of the firm's work as a project facilitator in the application of GEN3's methodology. Dr. Ikovenko has conducted more than 800 courses on innovation and TRIZ topics for Fortune 1000 companies worldwide. Most recently, he has been GEN3's lead instructor for the TRIZ Program at General Electric and has personally trained more than 1000 engineers at GE Global Research. He also conducted TRIZ programs at Intel, Siemens and Hyundai-KIA Motors (the programs at Hyundai Motors yielded more than 200 patents with an estimated ROI of $150 million). Dr. Ikovenko is an active member of ASME, ACS, and ASEE, and is also an Adjunct Professor at M.I.T. and an Honorary Professor of the University of Edinburgh, UK. Dr. Ikovenko has received numerous special awards for the advancement of innovation at Procter & Gamble and Unilever, and an award from Samsung Electronics for integrating TRIZ into Samsung Six Sigma Black Belt training. He also received an Innovation Award from Oak Ridge National Lab of the Department of Energy. Dr. Ikovenko is the President of the International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ). He has studied and taught TRIZ since 1986 and holds a certificate as a TRIZ instructor from G. Altshuller, the founder of TRIZ. He has over 89 patents in various engineering fields and holds numerous silver and gold awards from international engineering shows and exhibitions for his inventions. Dr. Ikovenko is the author of more than 97 publications.

Education & Professional Certifications
Dr. Ikovenko holds two doctorate degrees – a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Dr.­Eng. in Environmental Engineering and Sciences as well as a Master degree in Patent Law; he is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In addition, Dr. Ikovenko holds a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, QFD Black Belt and is a Lean TRIZ Master-Practitioner.
