2012 will see the show unveil its very first curator, influential lighting designer Durham Marenghi. Durham spoke to us about why he wanted to be involved with ARC, “Initially I was invited to speak at the ARC Show by the IALD in 2008 and have been following the progress of the event ever since.”
Commenting on what he will bring to the show, Durham goes on to say: “I hope to be able to bring focus to an event about lighting design and not just product, whilst product is of course of fundamental importance I want our event to touch on the more ‘fun’ aspects of our work and hopefully introduce and inspire architects to creative lighting design.” With such a visionary lighting designer on board, there is no doubt that the show will be elevated to new heights.
Another exciting element for 2012 is the launch of The Innovation Awards in association with Mondo arc, which will recognise outstanding product innovation in the lighting industry. Judged by a leading panel of experts including Paul James, editor of Mondo*arc magazine; ARC show curator Durham Marenghi; James Dilley, associate director, Jestico & Whiles and Kevin Theobald, lighting designer and IALD President Elect, finalists will have the opportunity to have their products on display within The ARC Innovation Centre at the heart of the show. Running alongside the exhibition is the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Enlighten Europe Conference, with a prestigious line up of top speakers from the lighting industry. Leading experts within the lighting industry include Arfon Davies and Giulio Antonutto, lighting designers at Arup; Mark Sutton Vane, Principal of Sutton Vane Associates Lighting Design and renowned light graffiti artist, Michael Bosanko will discuss topics such as Daylighting and LED technology. The IALD are global leaders in setting the standard for lighting design excellence, cultivating the universal acknowledgement and appreciation of the Power of Light in human life.
