CIE publishes Technical Report CIE 259:2026 on visual ergonomics for display equipment
The CIE has published Technical Report CIE 259:2026, "Visual Ergonomics, Lighting and Visual Display Equipment" (ISBN 978-3-902842-81-7, DOI 10.25039/TR.259.2026). The report updates guidance on display screens, reflecting advances in display and computing technologies and addressing newer personal devices, varied viewing positions, advanced control functions, and potential adverse effects of prolonged screen use. It consolidates peer-reviewed visual ergonomics principles for indoor work environments, covering user health, digital eyestrain, spectacle lenses, display characteristics, lighting and environmental modifications, and metrics-related issues. The 35-page report includes two tables and is available from the CIE Webshop and National Committees.
Circular Economy
White PaperOxford analysis finds circular lighting approaches deliver benefits in 74% of projects
A Signify-supported analysis by the University of Oxford and Academics for Circular Economy examined 50 circular lighting projects. Of these, 37 reported financial benefits, while 36 achieved energy savings, with a median reduction of 59.5%. The study emphasizes upgrading and reusing existing infrastructure rather than replacing it entirely. It also identifies barriers to wider adoption and calls for greater collaboration, procurement reform, and circular initiatives such as Signify Circle.
Automotive Lighting
A world first on the Audi Q9: digital OLED panel with a curved design
The new Audi Q9 introduces the automotive industry's first three-dimensionally curved digital OLED panel, enabled by ultra-thin carrier glass (0.1 mm) that allows a bend radius up to 200 mm. Third-generation digital OLED technology comprises 512 segments across six panels, including Audi’s largest OLED panel to date with 99 segments, enabling enhanced lateral visibility, new safety and communication functions, and personalized light signatures (static, active, semi-active) with 3D effects. Combined with digital Matrix LED headlights using micro-LED modules, the system enhances interaction with other road users and advances Audi’s decade-long OLED development.
