Luminus Devices Expands Sales Organization to Target Solid State Lighting Market

Luminus Devices, Inc. today announced its plans to enter the solid state lighting market with the appointment of a new director of sales for the company’s emerging general illumination business. David Sciabica has joined the company as director of sales and will be responsible for sales of PhlatLight products specifically for general lighting applications.

Luminus’ patented PhlatLight™ LED technology is leading the next generation of solid state illumination, breaking new ground in applications where high brightness LEDs have not been bright enough to displace conventional lamps. PhlatLight LEDs are considerably larger and brighter than conventional high brightness LEDs and are already proven as a replacement for high intensity lamps, offering more brilliant color and longer lifetimes in projection televisions and projectors.

“Lighting is a $100 billion industry, and LEDs will continue to displace traditional lamps due to their inherent efficiency, reliability, versatility, and environmental friendliness,” said John Langevin, vice president of sales and marketing at Luminus Devices. “Luminus has added and will continue staffing key personnel in applications engineering, product development and R&D to create new solid state lighting products for early 2008. Dave’s experience in the high brightness LED industry will prove to be a key asset to bring the benefits of proven PhlatLight LED technology to the general lighting market.”

Prior to joining Luminus, Sciabica held several sales management positions at Philips Lumileds, including vice president of sales for North and South America and vice president of major accounts. Sciabica was part of the initial management team at Hewlett Packard that established Lumileds Lighting in 2000 and helped grow the company into an important factor in the LED industry. During his 18 years with Hewlett Packard, Sciabica managed various sales organizations including global telecom accounts and the strategic accounts group. Prior to Hewlett Packard, he served as technical marketing engineer at Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Sciabica holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Luminus continues to expand its product portfolio to provide LED replacements for halogen, arc and florescent lamps in applications such as high-definition LCD and projection televisions, video projectors, avionics displays and other general lighting applications. PhlatLight technology is currently used in products from some of the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
