Photoptics 2016 Report

PHOTOPTICS 2016 – The 4th International Conference on Photonics, Optics and Laser Technology took place in Rome - Italy, from February 27 to 29. PHOTOPTICS 2016 was held covering a broad range of related fields on Optics, Photonics and Lasers, covering both theoretical and practical aspects. After a strict selection process, the PHOTOPTICS program included full papers (13% of submissions) and short papers (28% of submissions). Additionally 19% of submissions papers were accepted for poster presentation. With these acceptance ratios, we can assume that PHOTOPTICS next editions tend to be a quality conferences with high caliber.

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.

SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/) and every paper is given a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library.

The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index) and Scopus.

In addition to the presentation sessions, PHOTOPTICS 2016 included three outstanding keynote lectures, which are relevant to today’s lines of research and technical innovation. These talks were presented by internationally distinguished researchers, namely:

  • Giancarlo C. Righini, Enrico Fermi Centre & IFAC CNR, Italy
  • Title: Light-matter Interactions in Whispering-gallery-mode Microresonators
  • Andrea Cusano, University of Sannio, Italy
  • Title: Microgel Photonics - A New Avenue for Multiresponsive Optical Fiber Nanoprobes
  • Manuel Filipe Costa, Universidade do Minho, Portugal
  • Title: Surface Dimensional Metrology by Optical Triangulation

The papers were organized in 9 sessions ranging the hot areas of nowadays such as Biomedical Instrumentation, Adaptive Optics, Photodetectors, Fiber Optics devices, as well many other topics.

The organizing committee included the PHOTOPTICS Conference Chair Paulo A. Ribeiro (CEFITEC/FCT/UNL, Portugal) and the PHOTOPTICS Program Chair Maria Raposo (CEFITEC, FCT/UNL, Portugal).

PHOTOPTICS 2016 was sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Photonics Society and Photonics21. It was held in cooperation with the European Optical Society (EOS), the Portuguese Society of Optics and Photonics (SPOF), the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC), the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), the Italian Society of Optics and Photonics (SIOF), the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA), the Italian Physical Society (SIF) and the Optical Society (OSA).

Regarding the Best Paper Award, PHOTOPTICS has recognized the paper "Waveguide Evanescent Field Microscopies for Application in Cell- and Bacteria- Biophysics " from Silvia Mittler and as the Best Student Paper award PHOTOPTICS acknowledged the paper untitled “Interference Stabilization and Possibility of Amplification and Lasing in Plasma Channel Formed in Gas by Intense Femtosecond Laser Field” from A. V. Bogatskaya, E. A. Volkova and A. M. Popov.

After a successful 2016 edition in Italy, PHOTOPTICS 2017 will be held in Porto, Portugal from- February 27 to March 1. For more updated information, please visit the conference website: www.photoptics.org.
