DURIS E 5 – The New LED for General Illumination in the Residential Sector

A new LED is stirring up the LED lamp market: The DURIS E 5 from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is an LED intended for the LED retrofit market and designed to achieve uniform distribution of light. With its broad color temperature spectrum, high efficiency and natural color rendering it is well suited to the residential sector and to any other general illumination tasks.

The light emitting diode has an impressively high color rendering index (CRI 85) in all available color temperatures and therefore achieve natural color rendering. The LED is ideal for retrofits in the residential sector thanks to color temperatures of 2700 and 3000 K, which are precisely the same as the pleasant light from a classic light bulb. At 89 lm/W (3000K) the LED is highly efficient. According to Andreas Vogler, Product Manager SSL at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, “Our new DURIS E 5 offers an excellent price/performance ratio. This means that efficient retrofits with high quality of light can be completed at reasonable cost.”

The new LEDs have a package size of 5.6 x 3 mm, which complies with industry standard 5630, and can be arranged tightly next to one another. Coupled with their beam angle of 120°, they offer a uniform appearance in a lamp with no shadows or visible points of light.

The DURIS E 5 is also available in color temperatures of 4000 K, 5000 K, 5700 K and 6500 K, making it a versatile light source for a wide range of applications. With just one type of LED it is possible to create neutral white or cold white lighting – the kind of lighting that is often required in offices and shops. The LED can be installed in incandescent lamp retrofits, panel lights and downlights. They are suitable for the standard soldering process.

DURIS E 5 is the latest addition to the portfolio of low-power LEDs (<1 W) for the SSL sector. The existing DURIS E 3 is now also available in all color temperatures with a typical color rendering index of 85.
