Philips further extends portfolio of LED luminaires for outdoor and indoor applications

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) today announced another extension of its portfolio of LED-based luminaires.

These state-of-the-art lighting fixtures are designed to bring the dynamic lighting effects made possible by this technology – such as color mixing and changing for scene-setting – to outdoor and indoor applications ranging from city beautification and road lighting through to shop and office lighting.

Major advances
Until recently, LED luminaires were mainly used for luminance-based applications such as decoration and guidance. However, technological advances, including improved diode performance and increasingly refined collimator optics, have opened the door to new lighting concepts, enabling designers to fill, underline, pinpoint, mark or blend architectural elements with powerful illumination.

LEDs are ideal for color scene-setting, both indoors and outdoors. Using a single-color LED or a combination of three colored LEDs – red, green and blue (RGB) or amber, white and blue (AWB) – adds an extra dimension, making it possible to mix colors from different luminaires or within one luminaire. This has laid the basis for a new generation of leading-edge products that offer unlimited scope for creating appealing light effects.

Extended portfolio
Philips’ LED luminaires incorporate LUXEON® LED light sources, which offer industry-leading efficiency, power, durability and reliability. These state-of-the-art LEDs are integrated in compact, attractively designed housings made of high-quality materials. The newly extended portfolio now includes the following products, for maximum application coverage:

• Philips Spot LED, with its innovative LED light source, is a real revolution in accent lighting. Featuring an adjustable projector head of only Ø 31 mm, this is an incredibly small luminaire. It incorporates the LUXEON® K2 high-power LED, which delivers more light than ever before and emits no UV/IR radiation. Spot LED is available as a complete range – surface-mounted, recessed and wall-mounted. The latest addition is the stylish gooseneck version.

• Philips Marker LED RGB features SMD LEDs in combination with a diffusing glass cover, creating a clearly visible marker with a uniform light output. The Marker LED RGB enables dynamic color changes, opening up a wide range of creative options and effects. This robust fixture is available in round, rectangular and square versions.

• Philips Batten LED is a mono-color luminaire available in five standard color versions – red, green, blue, amber and white – for dynamic ambience, façade lighting and luminance applications. It can be used to power-wash a surface from 1m up to 3 m, to reveal form and texture. Batten LED is available in versions with 24, 48, 72 and 96 individual LEDs respectively.

Controls
To achieve the optimum effect for each LED lighting application, Philips has a host of DALI and DMX-based lighting controls that enable the user to direct the interplay of dynamic colors and changing intensity or choose a pre-defined scene. The following are
new to the portfolio:

• ColourChaser is a range of simple, easy-to-use lighting control solutions that enable users to create their own lighting ambience. With the ColourChaser family, it is possible to set a color, dim, or create one’s own color sequence, simply by pushing a button or turning a wheel.

• Philips ActiLume is a built-in luminaire control system. Its daylight regulation and occupancy control functionalities deliver automatic energy savings. ActiLume is pre-programmed with modes that can be easily adapted for different applications.

Customized solutions
The ideal solution for any lighting application has to be based upon balanced consideration of numerous factors – the materials being illuminated, the aesthetics of the setting, environmental constraints, etc. Besides the LED luminaires in the portfolio, Philips can help create customized solutions to specification, e.g. for architectural integration.
