Lamina Titan Series LEDs Illuminate Radiohead’s “Carbon Neutral” World Tour

Lamina Lighting Incorporated (Lamina), an innovator of LED lighting systems and technologies, today announced that their popular TitanTurbo LED light engine modules are being used by i-Pix, the UK-based creators of innovative theater and stage lighting systems, in their new fixture, the BB7, a seven-cell high powered homogenized 10 degree RGB light source.

This extraordinary lighting system is being utilized by the world-renowned music group, Radiohead, for the band’s current “carbon neutral” world tour which kicks off in the U.S. this month.

Looking uncannily like the Lamina logo itself, forty-eight i-Pix BB7s are positioned strategically around the stage. Radiohead's lighting and visuals designer, Andi Watson, is also using 48 of i-Pix’s new production model BB4s on his front truss. These BB4s also house the Lamina light engines which deliver a four-cell high-powered, homogenized 20-degree RGB light source.

The project started just eight months ago when i-Pix president and chief engineer, Chris Ewington, visited Lamina to view a demonstration of their new narrow optic. The project went quickly from prototype to full production once Watson and Radiohead production manager Richard Young and lighting crew chief Andy Beller viewed the first prototype BB7 with the new Lamina narrow optic. “From our experience, most shows spend months in discussion and a maximum of six weeks in prep, so this timescale did not come as a surprise” stated Ewington. “The design period was condensed from six months to four days, the components were produced in two weeks, and the units built over two weeks.
“This is our second in what is hopefully a long collaboration with i-Pix” said Frank Shinneman, president and CEO of Lamina. “Our first project with Chris Ewington and his team was on the Live Earth Concert at Wembley Stadium last July where the use of Lamina LED technology reduced energy consumption to one sixth of that of traditional fixtures.”

Lamina is the only energy-efficient lighting company to have its entire portfolio of LED lighting products individually certified for CO2 emission avoidance. Lamina labels its products with a “green tag” which highlights their energy efficiency as compared to their traditional equivalents in the form of the amount of carbon dioxide offset. Each Lamina TitanTurbo LED has been certified to avoid over 3 tons of C02 emissions into the earth’s atmosphere.
