LUX TSI Limited Achieves Accreditation from UKAS to ISO/IEC 17025 as a Competent Photometric Testing Laboratory

LUX-TSI, the first independent photometric lab in Europe for testing of LM79 and LM80 standards for LED lighting modules, lamps and luminaires, announced today that it has achieved accreditation from UKAS to test LED and other energy efficient lighting products for photometric, electrical energy performance and lumen maintenance. The solid state lighting market is expected to attain rapid growth over the coming years, due to the need for energy efficient and fully controllable lighting systems. The rapid growth in companies entering this market and developing lighting solutions based on LED and other high efficiency lighting technologies means that the need for competent, independent and accredited laboratories like LUX-TSI is essential.

The team at LUX-TSI has a deep knowledge of photometric and electrical performance testing and understands the processes to achieve compliance with emerging standards and to meet the performance and reliability requirements of the lighting marketplace. As experts in LED technology, LUX-TSI is well placed to provide essential support to companies developing new LED products and to ensure compliance of these products to international standards from organisation such as IEC and IES.

Key standards developed by the US IESNA organisation are being adopted world-wide as best practise in the testing of LED products. LUX-TSI has focussed on achieving competence in these standards such as IES LM-79-08 for photometric performance and IES LM-80-08 for lumen maintenance and this has been backed by international recognition through UKAS accreditation. UKAS is a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation ILAC which means that our accreditation for measuring and testing services is internationally recognized.

“Our aim is to offer competent independent accredited testing services focussed on energy efficient lighting, particularly the new generation of LED lighting products” said Dr Gareth Jones CEO of LUX-TSI. “Having accreditation from UKAS as a competent testing laboratory provide a high level of testing competence accessible to lighting companies and LED product developers in the UK and Europe. We aim to provide this high level of accredited testing at pricing competitive with other laboratories which have not undergone such stringent certification.”

“Our laboratory is equipped with the very latest in photometric test equipment, and we are proud to achieve this level of excellence, through the hard work and dedication of our team” said David Chan, CTO of LUX TSI. “Having successfully achieved this accreditation, we are seeking to extend the scope of our certification during 2012 in areas such as photobiological testing, electrical energy performance (ErP) and electrical safety”.

The company is able to offer a variety of test services, such as Gonio-Photometry/Spectroradiometry, Thermal (ISTMT), Environmental, Lifetime (LM80) and Reliability measurements as well as testing to ECA scheme. In addition, we can offer electrical safety testing for developers of LED drivers, lamps and modules.
