LpS 2015 Presents Building Blocks for Smart Lighting Designs

In the framework of “Building Blocks for Smart Lighting Designs”, the 5th LED professional Symposium +Expo (LpS) covers the whole LED lighting value chain from electronic components to complete lighting systems. From September 22nd to 24th over 60 lectures on lighting system design and hands-on workshops from EPIC, LG Chem and Luger Research will take place in Bregenz, Austria. Furthermore, the top 7 global LED manufacturers will use the LpS as a platform to showcase their latest technologies.

Lighting system design based on LED and OLED technologies is challenging. Successful LED lighting solutions require a holistic design and engineering approach. Hence, it is necessary to incorporate latest technologies, smart systems, new standards, advanced functionalities and new user behaviors. The LpS focuses on new system approaches, components, equipment and up-to-date design methodologies. Participants will be inspired to create new designs and transform innovations to the next level.

First Outlook on the Conference Program

The LpS program starts on Sept. 22nd with Keynotes from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Zumtobel and Lumileds to provide an overview of the current trends and technologies. Prof. Zary Segall from The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm will open the event, addressing the topics of semantic, smart and connected lighting, which are driven by the trends of Human Centric Lighting and Internet of Things. Those trends are also addressed by the internationally renowned lighting designer, Rogier van der Heide from the Zumtobel Group in Austria, whereas the focus of his keynote is on smart controls. The third keynote will be given by Jy Bhardwaj from Lumileds in the US. He will discuss future trends for solid state lighting, such as miniaturization, reliability and thermal management enabling a higher level of integration at the system level.

Over 60 technical lectures on trends and visions, lighting systems and light sources, smart controls, optics, reliability and lifetime, thermal management and measurement will be presented during the three event days. Furthermore, participants are invited to take part in discussions and hands-on workshops. LG Chem, the leading company in the field of OLED technology, will hold a workshop on OLED technology and application. Another workshop organized by the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) will focus on automotive lighting, bringing together the European automotive industry leaders. The third workshop, organized by Luger Research, is titled, “Smart Controls Innovation Workshop”. It will focus on systematic, next generation product forecasting. The definitive event program will be available at the beginning of June.

Product Showcase and Design Award

Over 100 exhibitors are expected at the LpS 2015. The top 7 global LED manufacturers: Cree, Everlight, Lumileds, Nichia, Osram, Samsung and Seoul Semiconductors are showcasing their latest products and technologies together with many other well-known material, component, module and equipment manufacturers as well as distributors and service providers. With the motto “Design meets Technology” students from the University of Applied Science, Munich, will demonstrate their innovative lighting designs as a result of a four-month university project called “Out of Bounds – Design Contest”. This project was developed in cooperation with Seoul Semiconductor with the clear objective of breaking boundaries in the lighting industry.
