Light+Building: Khatod Optoelectronic Announces PL50SIL - the Most Innovative Ultra Clear Silicone Optic for High Brightness LEDs

Khatod Optoelectronic, pioneer of innovative applications in LED technology since 1985, was selected as official demonstrator for the entire process running from the project to the manufacturing of PL50SIL at MACSPE 2012, Italy, exhibition dedicated to the new technologies applied to the production processes. In the Demo Unit named “From Project to Object”, inside the exhibition, Khatod carried out the entire manufacturing process of PL50SIL, starting from the initial design until the production of the lens by using working machinery on site.

“Don’t call it simply “lens”. No. What we will see at L+B 2012 in Frankfurt is much more than a lens. New ideas as well as investments in new projects are quite critical these days” said Giuseppe Vasta, President of Khatod Optoelectronic . “ However, we firmly believe that only continuous research and investments in new ideas can really help to break the deadlock caused by the current global financial crisis. Anyway, this has been Khatod’s philosophy since ever, allowing to detect in advance the market trends and deliver innovative products and technology. Such an attitude not only boosts the market but also creates new ideas and opportunities for business.”

Khatod optical solutions have made the mark in the ever-evolving LED Industry, and will never stop. Now more than ever, Khatod is investing its best engineering and economical efforts in new projects including not only innovative products such as PL50SIL, but also the development of cutting-edge technologies customized by Khatod’s engineers, in order to realize high technical optics for the most advanced specifications of the LED Industry.

About PL50SIL by Khatod:
PL50SIL - TIR (Total Internal Reflection) lens, MR16, Ø 50mm - is engineered to meet the typical requirements of High Brightness LEDs of latest generation which achieve very high temperatures resulting in important strain on the conventional polymers such as PMMI, PMMA and PC.

Silicone is much more resistant to high temperatures and considerably reduces the yellowing effect, so making PL50SIL perfect for the outdoor applications. No extra protection, as for example glass in case of head-pole, and no gasket for IP insulation are needed.

Silicone, as an isotropic material, provides PL50SIL with high flexibility which allows an easy fit as well as a perfect compensation for the construction mechanical tolerances typical of the final application.

New optical techniques allowing to sharpen extreme angles and elaborate specific geometries have been developed in order to make PL50SIL able to achieve a superior optical refractive index, and to deliver an optical performance level perfectly complying with the optical efficiency requirements posed by the HB LEDs of latest generation.

Cutting-edge engineering, advanced technologies, continuous research and experimentation, have led Khatod to work out also a totally new transformation process able to develop PL50SIL, the most innovative silicone lens in LED Lighting.
