Light+Building: Avago Technologies Announces New LED Products for General Lighting

Avago extends the 1-Watt (1W) high power Moonstone™ LED range by amber and red colors, adds a new series of thin plug-and-play high power cool white and warm white LED modules for use in architectural, backlighting, decorative, garden, and reading light applications, as well as its first 1-Watt cool white Moonstone™ power LED emitter for use in a variety of street lamps, portable, task, backlighting, and decorative lighting applications.

Avago Amber and Red ASMT-Mx00 Moonstone™ LEDs:
Avago’s amber and red ASMT-Mx00 are energy efficient LED emitters that are encapsulated in a heat and UV resistant silicone compound for high reliability and long life. This competitively priced LED emitters provide designers of solid-state lighting applications with an easy-to-use power LED that has a wide viewing angle radiation pattern, and superior heat dissipation.  Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

The ASMT-Mx00 1W Moonstone power LED series has been designed to dissipate heat more efficiently to provide superior thermal management and consistent light output. The low-profile design (3.3 mm H) of the 1W LED package is ideal for a variety of lighting applications where height is a constraint. Moreover, the high brightness output of Avago’s ASMT-Mx00 LED series provide lighting designers with ease of assembly, and greater flexibility in designing the size, shape and appearance of lighting assemblies.

In addition to the combination of high brightness, long life and low profile height, Avago’s ASMT-Mx00 1W Power LED series also provides a significant advantage in the production environment: They can be easily soldered using conventional surface mount techniques to minimize production costs.

Avago’s ASMT-Mx00 series LEDs is capable of being driven to a high current of 350 mA to deliver up to 42 lumens output making this product an ideal for use in solid state lighting applications. Moreover, the ASMT-Mx00 series is compatible with IR soldering processes.

Avago’s ASMT-MW09 LED features a low profile design and delivers high flux output of up to 95 lumens (lm) at 350mA drive current.  Moreover, this new cool white power LED from Avago will enable lighting application designers to achieve greater lumens output without sacrificing lumens per Watt efficiency by using higher drive currents.
