Toshiba Introduced a Transparent OLED and Global Solutions at Light+Building

Toshiba is the only company to provide a full and comprehensive line-up of solutions for building and public infrastructure. Toshiba wants to cover the needs of all 4 key market segments: home, office, retail and outdoor. At Light + Building, visiters were able to discover new and innovative solutions.

In 2014, Toshiba is working hard to provide:
•    more comfortable residential lighting
•    more efficient office lighting
•    more attractive shop lighting
•    more intelligent outdoor lighting

Transparent OLED:
After traditional in-organic LED, OLED (Organic LED) has been heralded as the next generation light source because of its unique properties.

Toshiba latest development in this field has been the creation of a transparent OLED panel, with light emission from one side only. Compared with the conventional transparent OLED panels, which emit light evenly to both sides, this new transparent OLED panel emits most of its light toward a single desired direction, effectively illuminating objects and allowing customers to see through one side of the panel, even when turned on.

The prototype luminaires using the new transparent OLED panels provide comfortable, non-glare lighting when the light is turned on, and fit seamlessly in to the atmosphere due to their transparency when turned off.

Lyon Smart Community Project:
Toshiba’s smart lighting system will contribute to energy savings for the eco-efficient building of the “Lyon Smart Community Demonstration Project. We collaborated with the architects and lighting designers in Lyon to create the concept and the industrial design of the new LED luminaires, in which new Toshiba LED modules are installed.

The new detecting motion, which uses a CMOS sensor, can work for smaller and more precise motion areas compared with the conventional detecting motion. For example, by using this sensitive system, the facility manager can set up divided detection areas using one CMOS sensor. These technologies have great benefits for further energy savings especially in office buildings
