Philips Expands Options for Cost- And Energy-Efficient LED Illumination

Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions, the new entity formed by Philips' acquisition of Color Kinetics, continues to expand its EssentialWhite™ series with the launch of two new LED luminaires for common interior applications. The luminaires will debut at the ARC Show, February 11-13, at the Business Design Centre in London, UK (stand M20).

With ever-increasing focus on the need for energy-efficient lighting alternatives, as reflected by initiatives including the recently-signed Energy Bill, Philips continues to introduce widely adaptable products that will take LED sources from specialized applications to mainstream illumination. The EssentialWhite series is designed to deliver the inherent advantages of LED sources for common white light applications that don't require sophisticated control systems. The product series incorporates Philips' proven expertise in LED technology, efficient LED drivers, mechanical and thermal engineering, optics and binning management - providing easy-to-use LED solutions that meet specifier-grade standards. In line with a growing number of standards and mandates, the products comply with the California Energy Commission's 2005 Energy Efficiency Standard Title 24.

Launching at the ARC Show:
eW™ Downlight SM Powercore - a sleek, competitively priced downlight for general illumination. Unlike typically larger, surface mount downlights using conventional sources, its low-profile housing allows for easy and unobtrusive installation in wide-ranging interior environments. Powered by line voltage and using standard mounting hardware, eW Downlight SM Powercore offers an attractive solution to the common challenges associated with installing fixtures into shallow recess depths. It measures 7.5 x 7.5 x 2 inches and is available in color temperatures of 2700K and 4000K.

eW™ Profile Powercore - a low-profile, linear fixture for common under-cabinet, task lighting and display case applications. Powered by line voltage, it consumes just 6 watts of energy per foot and can support a run of up to 50 feet on a single circuit. At 7/8 inch thick and 1 ½ inches wide, the fixture is easily and discretely installed to illuminate work surfaces in both commercial and residential settings. It is available in 11-inch, 21-inch, and 41-inch lengths and in color temperatures of 2700K and 4000K.

Like other EssentialWhite luminaires, eW Downlight SM Powercore and eW Profile Powercore incorporate Philips' proprietary power management and dimming technologies, which translate to greater operational efficiency and ease of use. They directly accept line voltage to simplify installation, and are compatible with commercially available ELV-type line voltage dimmers - making them easily adaptable to existing lighting infrastructure.

As part of a broad range of high efficiency lighting solutions offered by Philips, EssentialWhite luminaries represent an energy efficient, long life, durable LED solution which is also free of concerns surrounding radiated heat and UV emission. They are therefore well suited for areas where conventional light sources are impractical, such as tight or heat-sensitive spaces, vibration-prone environments, and where frequent maintenance and lamp replacement are undesirable.

eW Downlight SM Powercore and eW Profile Powercore are slated for general availability in March 2008.
