Intertek Expands Product Certification and Quality Assurance Services

Intertek, a leading provider of quality solutions to a range of industries worldwide, announces the expansion of its ETL Mark certification to include LED decorative lighting strings. This expansion gives manufacturers and retailers a product certification alternative that quickens a product’s time to market and creates efficiencies, with the widest scope of quality assurance services available from a single provider.

Intertek’s expanded services for LED decorative lighting string manufacturers and retailers include sales and technical support in more than 1,000 global locations, and testing laboratories in the following Lighting Centers of Excellence: Guangzhou, China; Kowloon, Hong Kong; Taipei, Taiwan; and Kista, Sweden.

When exporting LED decorative lighting string products to the North American market, manufacturers need to consider safety certification standards issued by ANSI/UL for the United States, CAN/CSA for Canada, and NOM for Mexico. Third-party certification for LED decorative lighting strings is recommended by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and a requirement for almost all North American retailers. LED decorative lighting strings may be subject to a variety of performance measures required by various jurisdictions or retailers, including criteria for energy efficiency, chemicals and materials, or retailer protocols, which Intertek’s services help manufacturers address.

“Without choices in the lighting market, manufacturers can be limited to just a few product safety certification organizations, which can create log jams and delays that compromise the timely release of more innovative, energy efficient products,” said Carl Bloomfield, Lighting Global Business Line Leader for Intertek. “Intertek is pleased to offer both manufacturers and retailers more choice with our expanded global services.”

Intertek offers a range of quality, safety, performance, regulatory compliance, labelling, and advisory services for LED products including modules, arrays, lamps, luminaires, and lighting controls. As the industry-leading testing and certification company for lighting products, Intertek can provide the most comprehensive quality assurance solutions across the largest global footprint. Intertek services help to ensure the safety and performance of lighting products – including testing the veracity of claims of energy efficiency or environmental impact. Lighting products can receive Intertek’s ETL Mark, which proves compliance to all requisite North American safety standards, as well as the CE mark or equivalent marks for other global markets.
