LedEngin, Inc. Secures $11 Million in Series C Funding to accelerate market adoption of energy efficient SSL solutions

LedEngin, Inc., a leading supplier of high power Light Emitting Diodes (LED) components and light source modules, today announced closing of its series C round of funding led by Partech International.

Previous investors, WK Technology Fund, and private investor Dr. Lu, also participated in this round of financing. LedEngin will use the funding to expand sales channels and manufacturing capacity, and develop additional SSL solutions for ultra bright lighting applications traditionally served by halogen and incandescent bulbs.

"The Solid State Lighting (SSL) Industry is just beginning to take off," said Tim Wilson, partner, Partech International. "LED die manufacturer are under tremendous pressure to improve efficiency and lower cost. LedEngin has invented complementary packaging technologies that allow the LED component to be smaller, more efficient, much brighter and more reliable."

LedEngin began first customer samples in Q1 2007. Today, more than 100 customers have sampled LedEngin products, and the company now has several products shipping in volume. All LedEngin products have passed stringent Wet Hot Temperature Operating Life (85C/85% WHTOL) tests. LedEngin's small foot print, brightness level and robustness are combined to bring SSL solutions to a range of volume applications that value high brightness in a small form factor.

"We are delighted to have Tim Wilson join our company's board of directors," said David Tahmassebi, CEO, LedEngin. "Tim and Partech bring an impressive background of achievement and knowledge in SSL applications, which will help enable LedEngin to accelerate its market penetration and help propel the company to the next level."

The LedEngin 15W product generates the industries highest flux per package. The products one-of-a-kind design allows the package to be mounted directly onto a heat sink eliminating the need for a MCPCB. The elimination of the MCPCB interface significantly reduces the system thermal resistance allowing drive currents of 1A generating unprecedented flux levels.

We are excited to enable a host of applications requiring ultra high power UV based LED lighting" said David Tahmassebi President and CEO of LedEngin. "Traditional UV lamps are bulky; expensive with short life span requiring UV bulbs to be replaced often. LedEngin new UV and multi-wave length UV is making headway in medical, portable and a host of others applications. We look forward to supporting our customers in this new endeavor." added Tahmassebi.
