TI's New Automotive LED Lighting Controller Without Internal MOSFET Texas Instruments introduced the first 3-channel high-side linear automotive light-emitting diode (LED) controller without internal MOSFETs which gives designers greater flexibility for their lighting designs. The TPS92830-Q1's novel architecture enables higher power and better thermal dissipation than conventional LED controllers, and are particularly beneficial for automotive LED lighting applications that require high performance and reliability. Eviyos LED Prototype Revolutionizes Smart Headlights The Eviyos prototype developed by Osram Opto Semiconductors is the world’s first hybrid LED and represents major progress toward the first market-ready smart controllable high-resolution LED. As soon as oncoming traffic is detected the appropriate pixels are automatically switched off so drivers of oncoming vehicles are not dazzled. Interior Automotive Lighting Control Redefined
Interior Automotive Lighting Control Redefined In modern car’s interior lighting, tough requirements and rising complexity are a huge challenge. A new industry consortium was formed to meet this technological challenge and to provide a comprehensive ecosystem for the new digital LED lighting paradigm. The founding members of the Open ISELED Alliance are Inova Semiconductors (ISELED "Digital LED" concept and LED controller), Dominant Opto Technologies (LED manufacturing and packaging), NXP (system microcontroller), TE Connectivity (system integration and connection technology) and Pforzheim University (theoretical framework). The alliance recently added LucieLabs (software, firmware), a French IoT Software startup to its line-up. The goal of all these organizations is to work in close cooperation to present a complete system solution - a true ecosystem. 36V, 2A Monolithic Synchronous Step-Down LED Driver with Silent Switcher Topology Minimizes EMI Concerns Analog Devices, Inc., which recently acquired Linear Technology Corporation, announces the LT3932, a monolithic, synchronous, step-down DC/DC converter with internal 36V, 2A power switches and an internal PWM generator. Its fixed frequency, peak current mode control accurately regulates current within ±1.5% for strings of up to 2A LEDs. Its integrated PWM generator offers a 128:1 dimming ratio. If dimming ratios of up to 5000:1 are required, the LT3932 and an external PWM generator can accommodate these applications. Read more »

The drivers are available within the new LITIX Power Flex series and the LITIX Power series. They address flexible DC/DC driver solutions supporting LED systems of up to 50 W and even above. Osram Adds New Oslon Black Flat S to Its Automotive Portfolio Osram Opto Semiconductors has launched the Oslon Black Flat S series, the world’s first surface mountable LEDs with up to five individually controllable chips. Thanks also to the contrast ratio provided by the package, they are predestined for use in ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam) headlights. Switchable light segments enable oncoming traffic and traffic further ahead on the road to be masked out, making driving more comfortable and safer. With their improved thermal properties, these high-power LEDs offer system benefits and are suitable as an attractive entry-level ADB solution even for vehicles in the compact class. Oslon Black Flat S for Automotive Provides up to 2000 Lumen Osram Opto Semiconductors is unveiling an LED prototype in surface mount technology (SMT) with a brightness of up to 2000 lumen (lm) at ISAL 2015 – the Oslon Black Flat S. Experts achieved this high output by combining five chips from the latest UX:3 generation with an improved SMT package. A single LED is therefore sufficient as the light source for combined low-beam and high-beam systems. The excellent thermal connection with the package allows for passive cooling, which reduces system costs. The Oslon Black Flat S is consequently a viable alternative to HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps and is scheduled to be added to the Osram automotive portfolio at the end of 2016. Read more »
