WalesOnline.co.uk Announced £5.1m Deal from Enfis to Take over PhotonStar
SWANSEA-based lighting technology company Enfis has announced plans to acquire LED firm PhotonStar in a £5.1m deal. The company intends to finance the deal with a placing of 5m new shares and is looking to raise a further £2m with the placing of a further 19.79m shares. Soitec and Sumitomo Electric Announce Collaboration on Development of Engineered GaN Substrates
Soitec, the world’s leading supplier of engineered substrates and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading worldwide provider of compound semiconductor materials, announced today they are working together to develop engineered gallium nitride (GaN) substrates. The alliance will draw on Sumitomo Electric’s sophisticated GaN wafer manufacturing technology and Soitec’s unique Smart Cut™ layer transfer technology by which ultra-thin GaN layers are transferred from a single GaN wafer to produce multiple, engineered GaN substrates. The engineered substrates retain the original, high crystalline quality of Sumitomo Electric’s GaN wafer at a lower cost. This technology will therefore facilitate widespread use of GaN substrates in applications like high brightness LEDs as well as electric power devices designed for hybrid and full electric vehicles. Dow Corning Joins the imec GaN Affiliation Program Dow Corning has formalized an agreement to enter the imec multi-partner industrial R&D program on GaN semiconductor materials and device technologies. The program focuses on the development of the next generation GaN power devices and LEDs. OSRAM Expanding in the Market for Energy-Efficient Lighting Systems and Luminaires
OSRAM is acquiring Siteco Lighting GmbH based in Traunreut/Germany from Barclays Private Equity. Siteco is a leading European lighting company with a worldwide workforce of 1250 and achieving revenue of around €220 million in fiscal year 2010. The company supplies luminaires and lighting systems for urban infrastructures such as public and commercial buildings, streets, tunnels, airports and sports stadiums. More than two thirds of the global lighting market is covered by luminaires and lighting systems. “With this acquisition, OSRAM is addressing this key market. As a leading manufacturer of lighting components, we are now also further expanding our competencies in the solution business. This applies to conventional energy-saving lighting technology and in particular to LED-based luminaires and systems, where we are expecting the greatest growth”, says Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM. TI to Acquire National Semiconductor
Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) and National Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) today announced they have signed a definitive agreement under which TI will acquire National for $25 per share in an all-cash transaction of about $6.5 billion. The acquisition combines two industry leaders in analog semiconductors, each with unique strengths in delivering products to improve performance and efficiency and convert real-world signals in electronic systems.
