Lumileds and BluGlass Cooperate for Developing Certain RPCVD Enhanced LEDs Australian technology innovator BluGlass Limited has today announced that it has entered into an exclusive collaboration agreement with Lumileds. Lumileds develops, manufactures and distributes LEDs and automotive lighting products. The two companies will work together to explore potential use of low temperature RPCVD for specific LED applications defined by the agreement. Joint Position Paper by LightingEurope and the IALD on Human Centric Lighting Light has been known for a long time to enable sight, safety and orientation. However, light is not limited to facilitate vision, it has the potential to achieve far more than this. Science has shown that light facilitates powerful non-visual effects on humans. Light has the ability to improve cognitive performance, it can energize, increase alertness or ease relaxation. It can improve mood, as well as stabilize the sleep-wake cycle of people. Therefore, it can be understood that light impacts people’s wellbeing and performance. In fact, the true value of light lies in the combination of excellent visual, biological and emotional effects of light. LightingEurope uses the terminology “Human Centric Lighting” for lighting that brings such benefits to the users. A product or system can only be “Human Centric” within the context of people, time and space, thus within a specific application. Osram Acquires Leading U.S. IoT Software Platform Provider Digital Lumens Osram has agreed to acquire Digital Lumens Inc., a U.S. company based in Boston, Massachusetts that specializes in industrial IoT solutions. Founded in 2008, Digital Lumens employs 65 people and in the last fiscal year generated sales in the mid-double-digit millions (USD). The Digital Lumens software platform can be used to run applications covering everything from intelligent lighting control, energy use, and security systems to the measurement of environmental parameters such as air quality. The cloud-based platform is compatible with components and hardware of other manufacturers. The Connected Lighting Alliance Accomplishes its Mission and Dissolves its Organization The Connected Lighting Alliance (TCLA), the primary advocate of wireless lighting connectivity, announced today that is has accomplished its goal of converging the lighting industry in support of the use of open protocols for wireless lighting solutions. Having looked at a wide variety of open protocols, TCLA has now endorsed ZigBee 3.0 for consumer applications and identified the Thread Group as the organization to develop a suitable network-layer protocol for indoor professional lighting applications. As such, the members of TCLA have agreed to dissolve the organization by the 31st of December 2016. Their work and vision for interoperable wireless lighting solutions will continue at TCLA's partner organizations: the ZigBee Alliance, the Thread Group and the Fairhair Alliance. Read more »
