Toshiba International Corporation Announces Lighting Business Reorganization
Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) of Houston, Texas has announced a reorganization affecting its LED Lighting Systems Division. Toshiba Lighting and Technology Corporation (TLT), headquartered in Yokosuka, Japan, is responsible for Toshiba’s global lighting businesses and is implementing a reorganization of international operations. As a result, the LED Lighting Systems Division within TIC will discontinue most operations by March 31, 2014. The headquarters’ responsibility for Toshiba Lighting in the Americas will be transferred to Greenstar Lighting Products Inc. located in San Antonio, Texas. Greenstar is a wholly owned subsidiary of TLT. Read more »

Wacker and Technische Universität München Extend Partnership in Silicon Chemistry
Wacker Chemie AG and Technische Universität München (TUM) are extending their existing partnership in silicon chemistry for another six years. They signed an agreement to this effect. The Munich-based chemical Group is sponsoring the Institute of Silicon Chemistry, located on the research campus in Garching near Munich, with a total of up to Eur 2.5 million. This will finance doctoral positions and the associated material resources. WACKER and the TUM founded the Institute of Silicon Chemistry in 2006. Over recent years, more than 30 research projects have been conducted, which have resulted in ten patents and 35 scientific publications. Read more »

Microchip Technology Announces Acquisition of Supertex Inc.
Microchip Technology Incorporated, a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, and Supertex Incorporated today announced that Microchip has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Supertex for $33 per share in cash, which represents a total equity value of about $394 million, and a total enterprise value of about $246 million, after excluding Supertex’s cash and investments on its balance sheet of approximately $148 million. The acquisition is expected to be accretive to Microchip’s non GAAP earnings per share in the first full quarter after completion of the acquisition. Read more »

The German high-tech company is extending the fabrication of all large-wafer LEDs to the indium-gallium-aluminum-phosphide (InGaAlP) material system and expanding its production capacity. Koch Industries, Inc. has completed its $7.2 billion acquisition of Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX, MOLXA), a global electronic components company. The acquisition was finalized through the merger of Koch Industries’ wholly owned subsidiary, Koch Connectors, Inc., with and into Molex. As a result of the merger, Molex is now an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc., retaining its name and headquarters in Lisle, Illinois.
