Thermal Technology’s K1 Produces China’s Largest Commercial-Grade Sapphire Crystal for LEDs
Thermal Technology’s Model K1 sapphire crystal grower was utilized by Hefei Crystalbridge Optoelectronic Materials Co. Ltd. to produce China’s first commercial grade sapphire crystal of nearly 100kg. Crystalbridge estimates these crystals will yield 4,000mm of “two inch equivalent” (TIE) rods, or about 5,700 high quality 2-inch substrates. Read more »

Mounting LEDs in all Directions and Angles - Assembly Technology for LEDs on 3D-MID Halogen lamps are very popular because of their warm light and the all-side light emission. Replacing halogen bulbs with LED lamps that have similar characteristics has not been satisfactory because LEDs mainly radiate in one direction. In order to replace a halogen bulb, LEDs must be mounted in different directions and angles. A technology that can provide this is the 3D MID (3-Dimensional Molded Interconnect Device). The combination of 3D-MID and LEDs is one of the most interesting future technologies for the lighting industry. Compact Goniophotometer for Packaged LEDs and Small LED Modules The LEDGON 100 goniophotometer from Instrument Systems determines the spatial radiation pattern of LEDs and small LED modules. Measurement is made over the whole forward hemisphere of an emitting LED. A high angle resolution of 0.1° means exact measurements even for narrow emission angle LEDs.
