Rich document Brave New World and the Dualism of Light(ing)
The lighting business has been quite predictable over a long period of time. Technical changes were introduced slowly, dominated by a handful of leading companies, and mostly due to new, but not disruptive light sources. The life of engineers was mainly determined by a manageable number of parameters: Lighting requirements, light source parameters, costs, product dimensions, and the odd, required feature.
Rich document Osram Launches Compact Ceramos Mini LEDs for Mobile Devices
Osram Opto Semiconductors is expanding its existing portfolio for flash applications with a product featuring a specially developed chip sized package (CSP). With Ceramos C, Osram is following the trend for miniaturization as the new LED is the smallest yet in its product family. It is ideal for flash applications on smartphones etc., producing perfect illumination for every snapshot.
Rich document Flexible OLEDs with Adjustable Colors – New Design Options for Lighting Designers
The Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP, one of the leading R&D partners for surface technologies and organic electronics, specializes in the development and fabrication of OLED modules with unconventional properties for specific client designs. The Institute will debut flexible adjustable-color organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) at ISAL 2017 in Darmstadt, Germany from September 25-27, 2017 at its booth (No. 31).
Rich document Variability in LED Production and the Impact on Performance
LEDs are subject to manufacturing deviations, which have an impact on the end product. Benoit Bataillou and T. Merelle, guest authors from Pi Lighting, review the surprisingly large impact on LED performance and light quality. They used traditional as well as modern indicators like CRI and TM-30 as well as the latest circadian indices to measure. The results are explained by spectral modeling and a variability study. They show the large impact on CRI, even with small deviations inside the same bin.
Rich document Green Light from 2D Formamidinium Perovskites for Ultra-Fine Display Colors
Chemical engineers from ETH Zurich have succeeded in generating ultra-pure green light for the first time. The new light-emitting diode will pave the way for visibly improved color quality in a new generation of ultra-high definition displays for TVs and smartphones.
Rich document Osram’s OSCONIQ® P 2226 Offers New Design Flexibility
Osram Opto Semiconductors, a globally leading lighting manufacturer with a history dating back 100 years, today announced the launch of the OSCONIQ® P 2226, a professional mid-power LED providing leading-edge technology for indoor and outdoor lighting applications requiring monochrome colors.
Rich document BJB Introduces New SMD Terminal Block for LED Boards
SMD terminal blocks are easy to handle and provide a permanently secure connection to LED-board power supply for all kinds of light applications. Their flat design makes a significant contribution to good lighting quality and avoids the formation of undesired shadows. Moreover, the SMD series from BJB also fulfils specific technical requirements dictated by the respective luminaire design. Examples of this include rear-side wiring and the use of stranded conductors.
Rich document Is the Light Industry Still in the Dark When it Comes to Cyber Security?
This May, the global news headlines announced that a penetrating chain of attacks had taken place. Over the course of just 24 hours, 45,000 cyber-attacks had taken place in 99 countries around the world. The ‘WannaCry’ ransomware attack hit multiple organisations hard, created over 200,000 victims, and even left vital operations having to be cancelled in UK hospitals.
Rich document Casambi Launches Easy-to-Install Wireless Dimmer for LED Strips and Constant-Voltage LED Modules
Casambi, the world’s leading provider of smart wireless lighting control technologies, has launched its easy-to-install and simple-to-use, four-channel pulse width modulation (PWM) wireless dimmer for LED strips and constant-voltage LED modules.
Rich document Cree’s XLamp CXA2 LEDs Set a New Standard for Better Performance
Cree announces enhancements to its industry-leading XLamp® CXA2 family of chip-on-board (COB) LEDs, including new premium color options, higher light output levels and the longest lifetimes published for this type of LED. The premium color quality options include high fidelity (98 CRI) and specialty color points for the 9 to 19 mm LES sizes with up to 50 percent higher efficacy than LEDs of similar sizes and light quality. These enhancements to the CXA2 family LEDs give Cree’s customers the ability to upgrade the performance of existing designs and to sell their products into lighting applications where color quality is important, such as museum, retail and medical lighting.
