Successful Development of High-output Broadband LEDs Capable of Emitting Visible Light to Near-infrared Light

Ushio Opto Semiconductors, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ushio Inc., has recently developed a broadband LED that produces the world’s maximum output of 160 mW over a wide bandwidth between 400 and 1000 nm, which covers the range from visible light to near-infrared light. From the 1st of December, Ushio Opto Semiconductors, Inc. started shipping samples from its new “Spectro Series” lineup as part of the “epitex series” LED brand and will exhibit Photonics West 2019 (The Moscone Center US San Francisco) which will be held on February from 5th to 7th. Access Fixtures - New "No Light Below 450 nm" Troffers for Clean Rooms and Production Facilities

Access Fixtures has released a new LED troffer that emits no UV and no light below 450nm. Named FLAT, the troffer was designed for grid ceilings of clean rooms and production facilities that require no UV and no light below 450 nm. Prior to the advent of FLAT, clean rooms and production facilities that required no-UV lighting relied on fluorescent lamps with coatings (gold lamps) or filtered lenses to block out UV wavelengths. However, coatings and filters broke down over time, causing expensive production failures. The LED technology developed by Access Fixtures renders gold lamps and filters obsolete. Read more »

Lumileds New LUXEON SunPlus 2835 Line Is Designed To Maximizing Crop Yield

Lumileds today introduced the LUXEON SunPlus 2835 Line of LEDs, which provide the color options and high photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) needed to maximize plant growth rate and crop yield of a variety of plants and vegetables. Growers can select specific color points or design a customized spectrum using the industry’s only LEDs specifically engineered for horticulture applications. The LED’s compact 2.8x3.5 mm footprint allows minimal spacing between plants and lighting so that higher crop yield can be realized in interweaving canopy or vertical farm applications. New Infrared LED from Osram for 2D Facial Recognition

Smartphones, tablets and the like can now be unlocked in very different ways: with a password, fingerprint scan or even an iris scan. 2D facial recognition is another method and involves illuminating the user’s face with an infrared light source and capturing the image with an IR camera. The system then compares the image with the images previously stored for the purposes of identification, focusing on characteristic two-dimensional features.
