PHILIPS TO ACQUIRE COLOR KINETICS
Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Boston, Massachusetts, USA – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) today announced it has reached an agreement with Color Kinetics Incorporated (NASDAQ: CLRK) under which Philips will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Color Kinetics for USD 34 per share, or a total consideration of approximately EUR 592 million to be paid in cash upon completion. Solid-State Lighting Market to Grow by 21 Percent While Residential Demand Remains in Infancy
The Strategy Analytics GaAs and Compound Semiconductor Technologies (GaAs) service release, "Solid State Lighting Market 2006-2011," projects 21 percent market growth for solid-state LED lighting through 2011. The bulk of demand, however, will be generated from niche lighting applications including architectural, task lighting, medical and off-grid lighting applications rather than the residential lighting market. Toronto Shifts to LED Lighting as Answer for Energy Efficiency

HC SemiTek orders Thomas Swan CCS reactor for high brightness GaN LEDs
Huacan SemiTek (HC SemiTek), a new China-based start-up company has received and commissioned its first Thomas Swan Close Coupled Showerhead (CCS) MOCVD reactor. The Thomas Swan CCS MOCVD tool was delivered in the 19x2-inch wafer configuration. To be used for the development and production of high-brightness gallium nitride (GaN) based LEDs, it has been installed in the company's brand-new facility in Wuhan, PR China. Read more »

Color Kinetics Announces U.S. and Germany Anti-Trust Clearance for its Acquisition by Philips
Color Kinetics Incorporated (NASDAQ: CLRK), which had previously announced its agreement to be acquired by Philips Holding USA Inc., for $34.00 per share in cash, today announced that the 30-day waiting period for the transaction under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, expired on August 10, 2007. The Federal Cartel Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, acting pursuant to the German Act Against Restraints of Competition, has also cleared the transaction. Read more »
