Kyma and Sinmat Enter Cooperation Agreement to Provide Advanced Crystal Fabrication Services

Tyco Electronics Ltd. (NYSE: TEL) received shareholder approval at yesterday's Annual General Meeting to change the company name to TE Connectivity Ltd. The name change is subject to Swiss regulatory approval, which the company expects to receive by March 25, 2011. The NYSE ticker symbol (TEL) will remain the same. Read more »

Capacity Expansion at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will be stepping up its production output significantly by converting its two chip manufacturing facilities to 6-inch wafers while expanding both plants. A new production building is currently under construction in Penang, Malaysia, while in Regensburg, Germany, the available space is being reallocated. The two facilities will each be converting to the new manufacturing technology, introducing 6-inch wafers to replace the current 4-inch wafers. These measures are expected to almost double the chip production capacity for white LEDs by the end of 2012. Read more »

OSRAM Expanding in the Market for Energy-Efficient Lighting Systems and Luminaires
OSRAM is acquiring Siteco Lighting GmbH based in Traunreut/Germany from Barclays Private Equity. Siteco is a leading European lighting company with a worldwide workforce of 1250 and achieving revenue of around €220 million in fiscal year 2010. The company supplies luminaires and lighting systems for urban infrastructures such as public and commercial buildings, streets, tunnels, airports and sports stadiums. More than two thirds of the global lighting market is covered by luminaires and lighting systems. “With this acquisition, OSRAM is addressing this key market. As a leading manufacturer of lighting components, we are now also further expanding our competencies in the solution business. This applies to conventional energy-saving lighting technology and in particular to LED-based luminaires and systems, where we are expecting the greatest growth”, says Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM. The transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities. The parties have agreed to keep the purchase price undisclosed. Read more »

The company intends to finance the deal with a placing of 5m new shares and is looking to raise a further £2m with the placing of a further 19.79m shares. Optogan Opens Largest LED Production in Eastern Europe Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Ivanov today unveiled Optogan’s new manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg. With an overall investment of 3.35 billion rubles (80 million euros) it is the largest LED component and module factory in Eastern Europe & CIS. The factory, which will employ up to 800 people, covers 15,000 m2 of floor space 5,000 m2 of which is taken up by a clean room environment. The first production line has an annual production capacity of 360 million LEDs and further capacity extensions are scheduled. Read more »
