Investment Group Acquires Bridgelux and Bridgelux Spins Off Xenio for Smart Lighting
Bridgelux, a leading developer and manufacturer of solid state lighting (SSL) technologies, announced it has entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investment group led by the China Electronics Corporation (CEC), and ChongQing Linkong Development Investment Company. Established in 1989, CEC controls 61 second-level subsidiaries, including 13 listed holding companies. With over 70,000 employees, CEC is one of the largest IT companies in China. In conjunction with the sale of Bridgelux to the investment group led by CEC, Bridgelux also announced that the Board of Directors has approved a plan to spin off its Smart Lighting LED platform business under the name of Xenio Corporation. Last Month to Apply for the SEAD Lighting Awards Competition
In an ambitious effort to reduce energy use on a global scale, the Clean Energy Ministerial's Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Initiative announced a competition to recognize the most energy-efficient lighting around the world. SEAD Global Efficiency Medals will be awarded to the most energy-efficient lamps and luminaires on the market as well as to new technologies that push the boundaries of efficient lighting available today. LED Light Bulbs Recalled by Lighting Science Group Due to Fire Hazard After receiving 68 (=0.12/mill) reports of LEDs overheating, the Lighting Science Group has recalled 554,000 lightbulbs sold under the brand names Definity, EcoSmart, Sylvania, and Westinghouse. Included in the incidents were eight that resulted in damage to light sockets, fixtures, rugs, carpet, floors, circuits or lamps. The Lighting Science Group is offering new bulbs to buyers. Leti and LUCIOM Co-Operate for High-Data-Rate Bidirectional LiFi Transceiver Development
CEA-Leti and LUCIOM, which develops visible-light communication using light-emitting diodes (LEDs), have launched a project to develop high-data-rate LiFi transceivers. With this technology, LUCIOM expects to offer in mid-2015 one of the first high-data-rate bidirectional light-fidelity, or LiFi, products that can work with different LED lighting sources, and on mobile devices.
