Depending on the requirements, conformal coatings, thick film lacquers or casting compounds may be employed for the purpose of protecting electronic assemblies against climatic load. Their main task is the protection against malfunction or failure of the completed assemblies, even under difficult operating conditions. While the majority of assemblies are installed unprotected in the terminals, and work flawlessly throughout their whole life cycle, with certain applications a permanent operation can only be ensured when the printed circuit board assembly receives a protective coating.

EU Ban on Incandescent Lamps Will Help Consumers and the Climate
The replacement of 3.5 billion incandescent lamps installed throughout Europe will lead to a reduction in the power consumed by lighting systems by more than 30 percent. “The decision by the EU will help protect the climate and will help consumers reduce their electricity costs”, said Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM.

Investment Group Acquires Bridgelux and Bridgelux Spins Off Xenio for Smart Lighting
Bridgelux, a leading developer and manufacturer of solid state lighting (SSL) technologies, announced it has entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investment group led by the China Electronics Corporation (CEC), and ChongQing Linkong Development Investment Company. Established in 1989, CEC controls 61 second-level subsidiaries, including 13 listed holding companies. With over 70,000 employees, CEC is one of the largest IT companies in China. In conjunction with the sale of Bridgelux to the investment group led by CEC, Bridgelux also announced that the Board of Directors has approved a plan to spin off its Smart Lighting LED platform business under the name of Xenio Corporation.
